Consider Water Therapy for your dog(s).
Dogs and water go together, at least for mine. Water is good therapy not only for humans but for animals, especially senior dogs.
I was fortunate to have been close to the water with my Coco and Skylar for most of their lives. We went to Montrose Dog Beach in Chicago, Illinois, Table Rock, and Taneycomo Lakes in Branson, Missouri, Lake Washington in Kirkland, Washington, the marsh at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington, and the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, California.
However, as they got older, getting to the lakes or ocean took a little longer. Even though we continued our hikes, this is when I began looking for a type of water therapy for both my dogs.
Skylar was 17 and Coco 16 and I felt that they could get more exercise without added pressure on their joints through water therapy. I was right and what we found, perfect!
The way that our sessions went was 15 minutes in the water (see videos) and 15 minutes getting massaged. Megan would do this alternation for an hour so each of my dogs would receive a total of 30-minute massages and 30 minutes exercise in the water. They came home relaxed, tired, loose and happy!
Coco, Skylar, and I were in the Seattle area, and our amazing therapist was Meghan at The Splashing Hound. And, if you are in other areas of the world, see if there are any water therapy venues near you. Many places call their water therapy services, Hydrotherapy. If there is no one in your area, perhaps create one! You can see in the videos that not much but a large spa was used. Not a bad occupation with many loving rewards!
