Acupuncture is fantastic for animals, especially dogs!
Acupuncture is good for dogs and especially senior dogs. Here is an account of my experience having acupuncture for my 17 and 18-year-old senior dogs.
I have had the pleasure of being very healthy and having longevity in my pets. I had a small 23-year-old Papillon dog named Naquita. And, an 18-year-old (almost 19) Aussie mix Skylar, and a 17-year-old (almost 18) chocolate lab, Coco. We can’t forget FatCat who lived to be 22 (was 22lbs.).
When my larger dogs turned 10, they both showed severe signs of stiffness and arthritis. I mean, they were fine one day, and all of a sudden, they could barely get up! Many ailments that happen in one pet, seem somehow to happen in the other simultaneously!
Check out my article on my personal DIY Green Doggie Smoothie where I share with you our miraculous results starting when Coco and Skylar were 9 and 10 respectively.
I wish I would have had them on this diet when they were much, much younger. I am still very appreciative that we started at all! They became more flexible and lived to be much healthier for 7 more years!
When Coco and Skylar turned 16 and 17, I found a vet with an acupuncture service. I had never had this done on any pet but I had heard of the benefits (especially on aging animals), so we tried it. My thought was why not? Coco and Skylar were starting to slow down a bit and it just couldn’t hurt. So, we went full-in!
The actual acupuncture process was painless. Our first session was with Skylar only. She was the oldest and was my main concern at that time.

Coco was always in the room during Skylar’s sessions and in session 3, Coco joined her.
The whole process took a little over an hour and the results were fantastic! Skylar’s weakness began in her lower vertebrae (which affected her back legs) and began to increase and maintain.
It was very apparent that during acupuncture sessions, both Coco and Skylar went into a very relaxed state. This is normal. And after each session, Coco and Skylar’s energy increased. These results kept us booking more sessions with Compassion 4 Paws.
If you live in an area where there is a pet acupuncture service, I suggest you try it. You can also contact Compassion 4 Paws and they can assist you.
Not only did Coco and Skylar improve, but they were also off any medications and had no health issues. So, all in all, our overall vet appointments were normal annual visits.
