Let’s Talk Attitude and Momentum
Happiness is the Absence of the Striving for Happiness. ~ Zhuangzi
I wholeheartedly believe that we are all seeking some form of happiness. Most people just want to be happy. That’s it. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we’re happy, we’re happy.
Life gets muddled when we follow unhappy thoughts that (in reality) diminish us. It is inevitable that one can’t flourish with this way of thinking. Unhappy thoughts can skew our innate momentum off course.
The momentum I’m referring to is that “feel-good” feeling when you think about something that makes you smile. And, then from there, to keep that momentum, you think of even more things that lift your spirits higher.
If the momentum has already started on the negative (down) side of your thoughts, it’s hard to stop. And, the harder you try, the momentum grows stronger in that direction. At this point, you just have to stop and let it go. Don’t look back, just let it go. Take a nap. Honestly, anything, that quiets your mind. Meditation does this as well.
An example of “catching your momentum”, would be like a car about to roll down a hill. It’s easier to stop the car before the momentum takes it over the edge when it absolutely can’t be stopped from rolling down the entire hill.
The trick is to catch your negative thoughts (momentum) before it gets to a point where it’s going too fast.
Start with easy, general thoughts. For me, I look at photos like this one where I was hanging out on the beach in Malibu with my Coco and Skylar. Focus on the feel-goods, not the miss-yous.
The sunset was it’s usual gorgeous and I recall being very content and happy. Whatever you may be facing with your pet, past or present, find your “sweet place”.
I then think of other things that make me happy. I love where I live, I love hiking, I love animals, I really love an animal’s wet nose on my cheek, I love a rainy day, I love sunshine, I love adventures, I love the stars, I love my family (oh, I could go on and on)! In reality, I do actually consciously go on and on and on and don’t allow myself any time to bring my momentum down where I can’t stop it.
If your pet has transferred, find those feelings you shared. Feelings are energy and they never die. Your pet is always with you and you deserve to find your peace in every stage of life with them now.
It’s this easy when you know that to feel happy now is ok and doesn’t diminish any memories. It is a choice, your choice. Choose to be happy. If you find it difficult, take a nap. Just quit “striving” to be happy because you are happy or you’re not.
When I do feel not so happy, I take a nap and start again when I wake. My mind now goes to feelings that make me feel good. I steer away from negative talk or attitudes.
Times can be very difficult if you’ve lost your pet, but you WILL make it through! You will for their legacy and yours.
