The Edge ~ Deliberate Choice

Deliberate Choice

And Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better. ~ Maya Angelou

You’ve got to continue to pull yourself together at all times. You can do this. It takes focus and a commitment to keep going even when you’ve hit a wall, look for an edge; another point of beginning.

There is a fine line between saying yes and deciding no, choosing to feel happy or settling on being sad, feeling guilty or being content, being at peace, or thriving in chaos. It all comes down to choice. It is an edge that can go in either direction at any time. You decide.

In reality, it is a matter of deliberate decision-making at that precise moment. I used to get all worked up thinking my decision was wrong, thinking it was too late to change. I felt confused most of the time because I just really didn’t know what to do. I didn’t.

The ability to choose “in the moment” is having the right momentum already in motion. If a car is already rolling down a hill, it’s too late to try and stop it midway. Let it go. Start again with what you know and do better next time. Certainly, do not be hard on yourself. Just be better next time.

Momentum is a lifestyle decision action. With your senior pets, you must decide to find the good in every situation, even when you are observing them slow down or watching them struggle. There is always the opposite end of these scenarios and it’s up to you to always find them.

You can choose to complain and be afraid, but you are only fueling your momentum in that direction. And, when things feel like they’re falling apart, your momentum is already going too fast in the wrong direction and at this point, you can’t just decide to stop it and feel ok. You’re not weak, the momentum has a buildup that’s too strong. You have to let it go, ride it out.

Life is life. And, part of life consists of ever-expansive change. It doesn’t seem natural to love change when it happens, and we sometimes live in memories so as not to succumb to change.

You’re going to get through your years with your senior dog. You will. It will be one of the most difficult times and one where you may not be quite sure what to do, and you will make it through. These same moments will have moments as well. It is always what you choose to see and feel.

Work on your momentum today. Start your mornings by giving yourself 15 minutes of “appreciative time”. Truly be grateful for everything that is happening in your life right now as you know it.

You will find that you are stronger than you think and you will be able to continue your journey without building up guilt or unnecessary baggage. Your life is made by deliberate choice.
